Facebook Tip: Maximizing Your Newsfeed

Recently I've heard several people tell me that they're going to quit Facebook because they're tired of seeing 2 or 3 people posting too much in their Newsfeed.  I'm shocked when I hear this as there is really an easy fix to the problem and quitting seems a little extreme.  I definitely understand the frustration though as we all have had these overposters in our Newsfeeds. So how do you do it?

In your newsfeed at the top right corner of each post you will see a down arrow (see image below):

Once you click the icon a drop down menu will open with several options:

  1. Subscribe to All Updates- You will see every post this individual makes... this is good for family members or close friends
  2. Subscribe to Most Updates- Facebook will prioritize this individual's posts showing them even more frequently in your newsfeed
  3. Subscribe to Only Important- Facebook will not show this individual in your newsfeed unless they deem it very important (based on number of Comments, Likes, and Shares)
You can also Unsubscribe completely from the individual where you can only see information about them by going to their profile and viewing it yourself.  I generally just check "Subscribe to Only Important" and it solves the problem with overposters cluttering the Newsfeed.

The Newsfeed for Facebook was one of the biggest game changers in Social Media which really set the network apart from MySpace when they were on the same playing field.  Facebook continues to work to make the Newsfeed as valuable as they can with a complex algorithm striving to only display in the Newsfeed what they believe you will be most interested in seeing.

Trust me, taking a few moments to "Subscribe to Online Important" for some of your friends and "Subscribe to All" on others will really make your Facebook experience that much better.

Facebook isn't perfect, but they strive to be and want you to have the best online experience that you can.  When used effectively it can be a great tool to stay connected with family and friends.

What are some of your favorite aspects of Facebook and what about the network confuses or bothers you?

What are some of the things that people post about that really annoy you?
