Amplify Social Media

A New Season for the Smith Family

I’m excited to share with you that our family is moving into a new season. After 6 incredible years at Community Bible Church in San Antonio and 2 adventurous years in New York City, our family will be moving to Dallas, Texas. I have accepted a position as the Vice President of Social Media and Innovation at Dunham and Company (the picture above is my signing the offer sheet about a week ago). All of my consulting work and clients through Amplify Social Media will merge into my role with Dunham and Company.

I first met Trent Dunham (Senior Vice President at Dunham and Company) 18 months ago in Fresno, California where we were both speaking at an Invictus Global event. There was a natural affinity and mutual respect for the unique Kingdom work that we were both doing. Over the past 18 months I got to know Dunham and Company much better and watched their Kingdom impact and influence continue to grow at an incredible rate. While their company was growing they continued to spend time investing into me as a leader and speaking into my growing business.

As Amplify Social Media has also continued to grow and their need for social media support has become greater, it became clear that we needed to find opportunities to overlap. Quickly in those conversations it became natural to begin thinking about how we might increase impact by serving ministries together as one rather than apart.  When asked if I would rather continue to function independently or merge my company into Dunham and Company it was a no brainer. Without hesitation I jumped at this opportunity to better serve ministries as a part of Dunham and Company letting go of the business functions and focusing on the service provided to our ministry clients.

This exciting development requires 2 big changes for our family:

  1. Moving to Dallas, Texas to join the team at Dunham and Company’s headquarters and

  2. Transitioning out of my role at Community Bible Church as Innovation Pastor

The second was the harder decision as we have been so deeply invested in the ministry of Community Bible Church. Robert and Chris Emmitt first empowered me 6 years ago to launch the ministry of Online Church and since that day we’ve reached more than 2.5 million people together from more than 200 different countries and territories. Our Facebook page alone is touching more than 3 million people a week and we have thousands connected in discipleship based Online Small Groups. I could list out the highlights of the past 6 years, but it’s the people that I have been privileged to work alongside on a daily basis that I will miss the most. The Innovation Team at Community Bible Church has been second to none as they have pushed the limits of technology constantly looking for new, efficient and effective ways to reach, teach and help people in Jesus’ name. They have followed my leadership as chaotic as it might have seemed at times and pioneered new ministry opportunities through new technology developments. I’m incredibly proud of the work we were able to accomplish together and humbled to have had the privilege to lead this team. Beyond this team though are the thousands of church members, ministry volunteers and other staff members that I have had the privilege of serving alongside. I will miss you all tremendously.

It has been the most incredible experience to serve under the leadership of Robert Emmitt, Trey Moore and Chris Emmitt. These humble leaders have taught me so much and invested into me as a leader in ways that I cannot begin to describe. Saying thank you doesn't even begin to communicate the depth of my gratitude.

So, what will I do as the VP of Social Media and Innovation at Dunham and Company? I will continue to do what I have been doing serving ministries and coming alongside them to maximize ministry impact through social media and Innovative new technologies. When it comes to social media we will help ministries develop an optimal strategy for greatest impact, develop content and distribution systems, support through empowered response teams, and measure success through ongoing analytics reports and social media audits. Beyond social media we want to support our clients through other new media engagement opportunities such as podcasting, live streaming, Virtual Reality, webinar management, and more.

Bottom line, if you want to utilize social media and new technologies for maximum Kingdom impact, I want to help. If you have questions about what we do and how we can help, just ask. Simply go to my Contact page and send me a message. I would love to dialogue about whatever your need or desire might be.

Why I Choose Squarespace for 90% of Websites I Build

If you take a look at several of the websites that I manage, you will see that I choose Squarespace the majority of the time.  Here are some of those sites:

You might notice that in many ways these sites look quite similar.  The truth is, Squarespace is much harder to customize than Wordpress, but if you are looking for a simple, clean, and functional website Squarespace is a great option.  My favorite part is how well all of their sites adapt to mobile platforms.  I’ve noticed that 60% of the traffic on all of the sites I manage comes from mobile devices, so it’s important that I look for these sites to function effectively on mobile first and then desktop. Our nature is to do just the opposite.

Here are some of the features I have loved about Squarespace:

  • All in one management - of hosting, domain and email
  • Metrics mobile app - lets me constantly check the site analytics on the go
  • Simple management tools - it’s so easy to update and so hard to break!
  • Beautiful templates - I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a bad looking Squarespace site
  • eCommerce integrations - the platform has seamless eCommerce integrations that makes selling things online so easy to manage
  • Forms - Squarespace forms look and function so great on all platforms
  • Affordable - a Squarespace site can be as inexpensive as $8/month which includes hosting.  it’s hard to beat that price point!

Have you tried Squarespace? If so, what do you like? If not, why not? Do you see any downsides to Squarespace?

We’re Celebrating 2015

I get this question a lot: “So, what is it exactly that you do and why the heck are you in New York?”

Well, there’s no easy answer to this question, but let me answer it directly: I’m the Innovation Pastor at Community Bible Church (oversee pretty much everything on the Internet – website, apps, Online Church, etc.) and my wife and I choose to live in New York for this season in order for our family to gain a unique life perspective.

Out of my work at Community Bible Church came my book, speaking opportunities and several consulting opportunities, which led us to launch this Nils Smith Solutions business. What has from day 1 functioned as a side business for me personally continues to blow me away by the impact we have been able to make as a team. While there are so many things I would love to celebrate when it comes to my work at CBC or experiences I would like to highlight from my family, I wanted to use this post to celebrate the impact that this business has been able to make over the past year.

Here are some of our highlights from 2015:

I’m humbled as I look at the impact that God has allowed for us to have this year. We believe that God has even greater plans for 2016 and preparing for exponentially greater impact. We appreciate your being a part of the journey and pray that we are able to serve you effectively in the future whether it’s through blog posts, online courses, strategic solutions or consulting services. We are truly humbled, honored and grateful as we celebrate 2015!

The Journey to 100,000 Twitter Followers

A little more than 7 years ago I signed up for Twitter and posted my first Tweet:

It wasn't very profound and neither were my next 1,000 or so.  I kept getting to know the platform though and have since met many new friends on Twitter, which led to face to face interactions. I found my voice over the years and focused in on sharing life happenings, ministry highlights, and helping ministry leaders maximize technology.

Over the past 7 years I have tweeted 10,406 times and my followers have grown to now over 100,000!

Honestly, in my first 5 years my following grew slowly to just under 5,000 and many people asked if I bought fake followers to get to the number I'm at today. The truth is, I did.  About 2 years ago, I heard that you can buy followers on Fiverr for $5, so I did. Almost immediately I began to see that this number established credibility with people even though I knew it was fake. What happened next though was very deflating. After just a couple of weeks all of these followers disappeared and I was back to where I started.

After seeing the response to my following, I saw significant value to figuring a way to get there without buying fake followers. Not to mention if I genuinely had that many followers, I knew the potential impact I could make on Twitter. So, I turned to an initial solution I had used in the past: copy following. I learned that about 20% or so of the people that I followed would follow me back. The strategy was simple: find someone with a similar focus and follow their followers and they would likely follow you back.

While I knew the strategy I needed to use, I didn't have the time to do it myself.  My next step was to hire a Virtual Assistant to do this for me. This happened about 18 months ago and my Twitter account hasn't stopped growing since. Over time we have found the most efficient technologies to use and most effective copy following strategies and now we have over 100,000 Twitter followers!

What's most exciting to me though, is not the actual following, but the impact that the account is having!  Around the same time that we implemented this strategy, Twitter introduced Twitter Analytics and you can now see how many people actually see and engage with your Tweets.  What has excited me is that just as fast if not faster, my Tweet Impressions have grown right along with my Twitter followers. Along with this growth, my blog and website traffic have also grown at the same growth rate almost identical to the Twitter account growth. These are not fake Twitter followers like I bought before, but now targeted followers who are genuinely interested in what I have to say and the links I have to share. Take a look at the growth on my Twitter impressions from just the past 90 Days:

As my Twitter following has grown I have implemented this strategy with most of my clients and have had countless friends ask me how much they would need to pay me to help them grow their Twitter account in the same way. Which is why we created Amplify Social Media to help anyone anywhere grow their Twitter following in a very targeted and strategic way.

Are you interested in growing your Twitter following to 100K? We would love to help!

Growing Your Twitter Audience with Amplify

I recently had a friend ask me how I have 90,000 Twitter followers.  My answer was: "It's complicated."  That's the truth.  I've worked hard to grow my Twitter following over the past 7 years, but it hasn't been until the last 2 that it has exploded.  This growth has primarily come from a complicated and manual copy follow technique that I learned and have hired a team to run for me and several of my clients and a few friends.

For the first time I am now offering this solution to anyone and everyone.  This technique has helped my Twitter account grow by more than 60,000 Twitter followers in the past 2 years.  Naturally, I believe that the content that is created is the most important part of developing a social media strategy. But just offering great content without a growth strategy is often a very slow process when trying to build a following. However, great content partnered with a growth strategy makes for a dynamic duo in creating a large and engaged audience.

Are you ready to grow your Twitter following?  We have put together some great packages from a 7 day trial to an Elite package that also includes an Instagram growth strategy.  I highly recommend the Premium package to really focus on growing your Twitter following.  This is the core strategy that I have used that has grown my Twitter following to over 90,000 followers and I expect to be at over 100,000 by the end of the year.

If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to comment below or simply send me a message on Twitter.  If you're ready to get started growing your Twitter following click the link below to learn more about Amplify Social Media.  Know that we are batching new clients in based on when they sign up so you will want to make sure you sign up early to make sure to be one of the first to be a part of this new and exciting program.
