1 More Reason to Love Standard Theme: SEO!

So I've talked about this recently, but the more I dig into the Standard Theme the more I love it!  I'm in no way an expert when it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but I do know how important it is. Take a look at traffic that comes to this blog:

Curious what color represents what traffic source?

Here's the answer:

Blue- Direct (people that type in http://nilssmith.com)

Green- Google

Orange- Facebook

Yellow- Facebook mobile

Honestly, I'm surprised to see how little traffic comes from Twitter, but that's not what this post is about.  22% of the traffic would not be visiting this site if it weren't for the Search Engine Optimization that Standard Theme built into this Wordpress theme.  My guess would be that many of the direct links likely found NilsSmith.com via Google as well.

Check out this feature below the Standard Theme built into the template allowing writers to add a Meta Description to each post:

This seems like a small thing, but I'm telling you this meta description is key to people finding you online.  If you want a blog just for friends and family, SEO isn't important.  If you're looking for a platform to grow and reach people all over the world, SEO features such as this are critical!

I promise that I don't work for Standard Theme (although I'd love to), but I will admit that I do get a commission if you buy the Standard Theme linking from this site.

I really don't share this info though to make a buck.  I honestly love the Standard Theme and think you would too!

Why I Use Standard Theme

It has now been over 2 years since I first launched NilsSmith.com and one of the best decisions I made was choosing the Standard Theme.  Honestly, I knew little about Wordpress at the time and I chose it because others I respected were using it (Michael Hyatt, Tony Morgan, and John Saddington).  While I wasn't educated at the time, I know much more now and do not regret the decision for a second.

There are dozens or probably hundreds of reasons to love the Standard Theme, but here are my top 5:

1) It's Simple.  It is easy to setup, easy to use, and has a simple and clean look.  Standard Theme offers a simple structure for any beginner with a complex backend with plenty of customizations if that is what you're interested in.

2) SEO Optimization.  I continue to learn how important Search Engine Optimization is when it comes to any web presence.  With Standard Theme's SEO Optimization I have found that over half of my traffic comes from Google Search.

3) Support/Forums.  When I don't know what to do I go straight to the Forums and have always gotten immediate response either from other Standard Theme users or the Standard Theme team.  The support has been phenomenal for a product that is so inexpensive!

4) Lifetime Upgrades.  I just upgraded to Standard Theme 3 and it didn't cost me a penny!  My blog just got a lot better at no cost an minimal effort.  If you go Standard pay the extra for the Lifetime Upgrades, it's worth it!

5) It's Popular.  I continue to watch the trends and love that so many other people use Standard Theme.  I enjoy seeing their customizations and unique ways that they maximize the theme.

Are you a Standard Theme user?  What features do you really like or maybe dislike?  If you use a different theme I would love to hear your thoughts on that theme and what features are important to you.
